3 Things to Consider When Choosing an Outfit for a Dinner Date

Get ready for your dinner date

So you’ve got a hot date coming up and you’re pretty excited. They’re smart, funny, and attractive and they’ve agreed to dinner with you! Good for you (we knew they’d say yes)! Now to think about your outfit…

Dressing for a dinner date can be stressful – you don't want to look like you've put too much thought into what you’re wearing but you still want to impress the person you’re taking out. It’s really not that hard once you get the basics down, we promise. Here’s how you can make sure your style impresses your date at dinner.

1. Think about where you’re going

This is an important one. There’s going to be a huge difference in what you wear when you decide to take your date out to a fried food truck festival versus dinner at a restaurant with an in-house sommelier.

For more casual nights out, opt for a relaxed vibe by avoiding collared shirts and slipping on some smart sneakers. Add a great pair of jeans and a quality sweater to show your class. For the latter, think smart casual. This time, don a collared shirt but avoid looking too formal. Pop on some tailored chinos and your go-to leather boots for a gentleman’s touch.

2. Think about what you’re eating

Don’t wear you’re crisp, white shirt if you anticipate dinner will be a messy affair. No amount of charmingly coy dad jokes will bring you back from spilling wing sauce down your shirt. Instead, try a darker colour – a navy or maroon for something different.

Alternatively, if you’ve opted for a ritzier locale, be sure your ‘keep it for best’ shirt isn’t too tight and you still have room to breathe. Stay functional to keep cool in front of your potential partner. Not only will you look more refined and put together, you’ll feel more confident, too.

3. Think about your own style

Wanting to impress your date doesn’t mean you should neglect your own style preferences. Customise your look with your own flare – add your favourite bracelet or throw on that funky pair of socks. You’ll be more confident in yourself and much more likely to relax and enjoy your night. Showing personality early on in a relationship is key to being able to decipher whether your courtship will go beyond that first date.

Dressing for dinner dates is simple – just be practical, keep comfortable and be yourself. You’ll put your best foot forward and your date will definitely pick up on your confidence.

Here's what our happy customers are saying.

I'll never have to enter a shopping centre again!! Received my first kit. Felt like a kid again, getting Christmas present... Hands down one of the best outfits I've ever worn! It was like everything was hand picked, styled for a perfect fit. I was so impressed, especially with all the compliments received!! I'm changing my whole wardrobe. Thanks Mimi!!!

Could not be happier with Kent and Lime. After having a good chat with Denice (my stylist) got a kit the next day. Everything fit really well and she absolutely nailed the style I was after! Had another chat regarding aspects I liked and aspects I didn't like and now can't wait for the next kit. As someone who hates shopping for clothes I will never step foot in another clothing store again!

I gave K&L a crack because I don't enjoy clothes shopping and I get bored if I can't find what I want right away. My first stylist chat was good, the first couple of kits were hit and miss but the kit I just received (from a new stylist, Denice) is bang on. I'm not sending anything back, she absolutely nailed it, leaving me no reason to go clothes shopping.
