Protein, Pants and Pinstripes: The Muscular Guy’s Style Guide

Get started

Whether you’re naturally blessed with a muscular physique, or you spend hours pumping iron at the gym, finding clothes that fit your solid build can be more arduous than climbing stairs the day after leg day. But, by following some simple style rules, you’ll be able to nail the look you want and make the most of your fit frame.

The perfect fit

It might take you beefcakes (sorry) a little longer in the change room, but your frame will really benefit from a little extra consideration when it comes to fit. Try on a number of sizes to find what feels best – and it might pay to size down. After all, you don’t work hard in the gym for killer biceps, just to hide them under a baggy, unflattering shirt, do you?

You’ll likely want to give skinny fits a miss, but often a straight jean or classic fit shirt with the right craftsmanship can accentuate your broad shoulders and create the enviable inverted triangle silhouette – no barbells required.

Stick to staples

Unfortunately, many current trends don’t lend themselves to a muscular physique. It’s ironic really, that #health, #cleaneating and #gains are what’s hot, yet this hasn’t translated to the collections of trend-setting designers. That’s not to say you can’t look crisp, though. There’s a lot to be said about a modern, muscular gent sporting well-curated basics. Sharp lines, neutrals and monochromatic palettes paired with thought-out accessories can create an understated, timeless look.

So you skip the harem pant phase, and perhaps pass on the skinny shirt and man bun – we’re sure you’ll cope. Try pairing tapered, thigh-friendly slacks with a snug-fitting t-shirt. Finish the look with casual leather sneakers, a matte black watch and an effortlessly disheveled hair style.

Go light on layers

When winter strikes, it can be easy to reach for your finest cable knit jumper. Slow down, buddy. Your vast frame will just be amplified, not appreciated – particularly if you’re top heavy. Wearing a chunky item of clothing on your larger half can risk sabotaging your physique by making you look out of proportion. Stick to lighter layers, like bomber jackets and blazers. If you need extra warmth, go for quantity over volume to keep your shape in balance.

Whether you’ve always been a muscle man, or you’ve recently been hitting the gym the hard whey – see what we did there? – finding clothes to suit a non-conventional shape can be difficult, especially if you’re not a lover of pounding the department store.

Here's what our happy customers are saying.

I'll never have to enter a shopping centre again!! Received my first kit. Felt like a kid again, getting Christmas present... Hands down one of the best outfits I've ever worn! It was like everything was hand picked, styled for a perfect fit. I was so impressed, especially with all the compliments received!! I'm changing my whole wardrobe. Thanks Mimi!!!

Could not be happier with Kent and Lime. After having a good chat with Denice (my stylist) got a kit the next day. Everything fit really well and she absolutely nailed the style I was after! Had another chat regarding aspects I liked and aspects I didn't like and now can't wait for the next kit. As someone who hates shopping for clothes I will never step foot in another clothing store again!

I gave K&L a crack because I don't enjoy clothes shopping and I get bored if I can't find what I want right away. My first stylist chat was good, the first couple of kits were hit and miss but the kit I just received (from a new stylist, Denice) is bang on. I'm not sending anything back, she absolutely nailed it, leaving me no reason to go clothes shopping.
